Birthmarks can present at birth or appears shortly after birth. They can occur anywhere on the skin.
Birthmarks are generally caused by an overgrowth of certain structure in the skin. For example, an overgrowth of blood vessels produces vascular birthmarks (patch of red, pink, or purple skin); an overgrowth of pigment cells produces moles.
Treatment recommendations and the number of sessions required are made depending on the colour, darkness, size and intensity of your birthmark. In the case of a tattoo, we need to consider the depth of the ink, and how old it is as well.

VBeam® is a Pulse Dye laser that delivers an intense but gentle burst of light into selectively targeted areas of the skin. The light is absorbed by specific blood vessles or melanin pigmented areas in the dermis depending on the condition being treated. Factors such as the age, colour and type of lesions, as well as the location on the body, all determine whether lesions can be removed.
This treatment is so safe that it has been successfully used since the 1980’s for the treatment of port wine stain birthmarks in infacts and young children.
Q-Switched laser technology creates high-intensity pulsed beam light. It has energy that is concentrated into ultra-powerful pulses which only last a billionth of a second each. This results in reduced energy’s contact with the skin compared to other lasers and will preserve the surrounding tissue and reduce risk of side effects.
The different wavelengths of light produced by Q-Switched lasers makes them a versatile treatment which can effectively address many different conditions. Nd:YAG® is the most popular type of Q-switched laser. This laser emits 1064nm and 532nm wavelengths and is prized for its vast range of application
